“We only did one take of everything. We never did more than one take. She [Michelle Williams] had six years to prepare and I had four years to prepare, so we were ready. We never rehersed. The way that he [Derek Cianfrance] filmed it, when these characters are getting to know one another, so were we, Michelle and I didn’t know each other, all we knew was that for the past four to six years we were working on these characters so we were anxious to show one another what we’ve come to. For instance, that night when that scene [above] happened, he said that he would shoot from sun-down to sun-up and whatever we did, he would follow and shoot, and it was up to us.”
