“When I was 12, I was making small feature-films, which took place in the woods around my house, with the hand-held camera. The most refined thing at the time was I discovered if you used indoor film outdoors, you could get these weird, bluish colours. That was great, and I wanted to know more about that. I used 8mm cameras for eight years before moving on to 16mm. I’m crazy about these Bolex cameras and felt I could do anything with them -expose the film and take it back, do single frames and triple exposure and so on. I tried every technique.” —
